on all the cars that we have lowered we have always cut them by about half.

i thought you were supposed to cut them down when you put lowering springs in. i could have sworn the instructions for blanca's teins said to cut them.

they are those orange rubber things that go on your shocks to keep them from bottoming out.

All I'm reading is "Just do it" like its a Nike comercial or something but noone really is telling me why.

I wonder if i can cut them without taking everything apart.

I didn't get directions for my springs, so. If this doesn't make my car a little lower then I'll just have to get Stechs or sprint.

PostSubject: Re: GI: Cutting Bumpstops   Thu Jul 30, 2009 3:52 pm

The bumpstop is a rubber/foam piece that slides down on the shock rod. Its purpose is to keep the shock from bottoming out. With factory springs the range of motion in the spring and shock are alot more. When you use lowering springs it lowers the shock rod down. Now making the range of motion on the shock alot less before it bottoms out. So if you cut the bump stop in half, it gives the car alittle more range in the shock before the bump stop. If you leave the bump stop full size alot of times the car will be bouncy sense it is sitting real close to the bump stop and not having any range of motion to it.

Hopefully that helps.

i seriously doubt it would affect ride hieght, just your usable range of motion on the strutt like already stated, the bump stop doesnt directly affect spring placement or seating as far as i know, so it shouldnt change the hieght. if you have adjustable coils like some of use, then cutting could allow you to go lower, but not cuase it directly. that help chris?
